Val and Trick run the bar and the kitchen for Lily, one of the most sought after reservations in Miami. But something is stalking the guests and staff of their house. Their inscrutable boss wants the problem solved, a problem she seems to know a little too much about. It starts when one of their guests is found desiccated in the parking lot during service.
While they track the killer, their other duties refuse to wait. It's the end of Snow Bird season, one of the busiest times of the year for restaurants in the sun-drenched playground of the wealthy and well-connected. Staying on top of back-to-back fourteen-hour shifts, dealing with overly entitled customers, and keeping the mounting body count a secret is all in a day's work for Val and Trick. But the bodies pile up, questions from the police become a nightmare, and the source of the deaths remains a mystery.
They'll need to navigate the humid night’s dangers—both human and mystical—to stop the monster interfering with an ideal Mojito and seared grouper with uni butter and salmon roe. Fine dining looks glamorous when you’re sitting at the table, and servers are creating theater around you. But bear in mind that old adage about sausage and how it’s made.
